Today, stepping into the base model feels like getting on board a spaceship. Some days I wonder if manufacturers haven’t just gone too far. Nonetheless, that’s the impression I have even though the numbers seem to prove otherwise, as sales are going strong, and buyers generally opt for well-equipped models.

For 2024, the list of improvements isn’t too extensive concerning the Chevrolet Silverado. It’s important not to forget that the American manufacturer’s truck underwent a significant update last year. The interior has been considerably modernized. The improvements are minor this year with the addition of standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As for the rest, it mainly involves small modifications to various option groups.

Range and Price

The starting price for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado is $47,925. Here, you get a regular cab and a fairly basic standard equipment for a modern truck. In fact, you’re more likely to encounter a Lamborghini than a truck of this configuration on the road. Then there’s the double cab, which is a bit more popular, but again, it’s relatively rare compared to the following configuration. The starting price for a Silverado with a double cab is $51,525. Meanwhile, the crew cab version starts at $57,825 with four-wheel drive. If you prefer 4×2, it’s only $3,000 less.

Once you’ve chosen the configuration you’re interested in, the next step is to select the trim level, and that’s where things get interesting for buyers. I’ll use the crew cab version here as a reference because it’s with this one that you find the widest variety of options. It all starts with the WT (Work Truck) version, which offers the bare minimum. Then there’s the Custom version starting at $62,225. For just $2,000 more, you have access to the Custom Trail Boss version, which offers a darker appearance by eliminating various chrome elements from the vehicle. Moving on, there’s the LT version starting at $64,625, where equipment level improves without focusing on the look. The RST version follows at $66,525, offering a more sporty feel. If you like the design of the Custom Trail Boss but want the equipment of the LT version, there’s the LT Trail Boss at $70,225. For a more luxurious truck, the Silverado LTZ is definitely the option to go for. If you like luxury with a Country twist, the High Country version is the one to prioritize at $86,725. Lastly, the ZR2 version tops the range at $89,725. This one offers superior off-road driving capabilities and a genuinely interesting look.

Category and Competition

The battle is particularly fierce in the full-size truck segment. Diversity and capabilities are crucial factors for buyers. Fortunately, Chevrolet plays its cards well with the Silverado, offering something for everyone at a reasonably fair price in each situation. In my opinion, Chevrolet and GMC are the manufacturers whose trucks currently give you the most value for your money.

Design and Technologies

As for the design, it all depends on the version you choose, and that’s what makes a vehicle like the Chevrolet Silverado beautiful. There’s so much diversity and possible configurations that every truck coming out of the factory feels unique. Personally, I have a soft spot for the appearance of versions labelled as Trail Boss and for the ZR2 version. The dark look and more aggressive design elements make these trucks more captivating in today’s market.

The only thing lacking in the Silverado before last year was an interior, and General Motors delivered it to us on a silver platter. Finally, we have the possibility of having a digital dashboard and a more modern, larger screen for the infotainment system. Moreover, the latter is particularly user-friendly, and its navigation is very smooth.

Performance

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado offers four mechanical options, starting with a 2.7-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Next, there’s the 3.0-litre inline-6 diesel engine producing 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Here, a 10-speed automatic transmission is used, as with the other engines. The next engine on the list is the 5.3-litre V8, generating 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the top-tier engine is the 6.2-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Weaknesses

The ride can be a bit firm on some versions. Certain engines can be very fuel-thirsty.

Strengths

The Silverado is among the most attractive trucks on the market. Its interior is modern and very spacious. The manufacturer’s truck also displays impressive towing capabilities and off-road driving prowess.

Signature Element

The Chevrolet Silverado is practically an institution. It’s a model truck that has its fair share of followers and keeps pushing the boundaries every year.

The modern truck takes on several roles. It’s both a family vehicle, an office, and a work tool. Fortunately, Chevrolet has considered all these aspects, and that’s why the Silverado is capable of handling all situations. Additionally, it’s an elegant truck that certainly turns heads on the road. It’s a vehicle that truly commands attention on the road.
