You might think that massive SUVs like the Tahoe no longer have a place in a market focused on electrification, hybrid technology, and smaller vehicles—but the opposite is true. In fact, the American automaker's full-size SUV has never been more popular than it is today. I can understand those who criticize the Tahoe while driving a hybrid subcompact. However, this large SUV meets the needs of many buyers, especially large families who love to go on adventures. So, contrary to what one might assume, the Chevrolet Tahoe has a real purpose—it doesn't just exist for the sheer pleasure of a few, unlike many other vehicles.
The American automaker's SUV benefits from several minor aesthetic upgrades for 2025. Inside, the first thing that catches your eye is the new 17.7-inch screen. Diesel engine fans will also be pleased to know that this powertrain has been boosted this year.
The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in six different trims, starting with the LS model at $79,925 CAD with rear-wheel drive. If you add all-wheel drive—which almost all buyers do—the price rises to $83,425 CAD, a small enough difference that it's well worth it in my opinion.
Next up is the LT trim at $87,425. The Z71 model, with a more rugged finish, comes in at $92,425. If you want something sportier, the RST version starts at $93,425. For a more luxurious finish, there's the Premier version at $101,710, and finally, the top-of-the-line High Country trim costs $109,510. Clearly, this SUV isn't within everyone's budget, but for the price, it remains a very versatile vehicle.
The Chevrolet Tahoe falls into the segment of large, full-size SUVs aimed at the general public. It offers impressive capabilities across the board and has everything it takes to please the whole family. Even though this segment includes only a few models, competition is fierce.
Rivals: Chevrolet Suburban, Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia
The Tahoe is big and stylish. It's hard to miss on the road—it's nearly the size of a bus. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but its size is definitely one of its strengths. The more luxurious trims and the Z71 model include visual enhancements that make the Tahoe even more appealing.
As mentioned earlier, the first thing you'll notice inside the Tahoe is the massive digital dashboard, combining the instrument cluster and infotainment system on a 17.7-inch screen. I'd also like to highlight the High Country version, which offers one of the nicest interior finishes in its class, in my opinion.
The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe offers three powertrain options, starting with a 5.3L V8 producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Next is the more powerful 6.2L V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. In the RST version, this engine is boosted to 433 hp and 467 lb-ft. Lastly, there's the inline-6 diesel engine, which develops 306 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.
All versions are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ironically, it's the 5.3L V8 that offers the best towing capacity at 8,400 lbs.
The price increases quickly from one version to the next.
The V8 engines are very thirsty.
The Chevrolet Tahoe is a versatile and rugged vehicle.
It's stylish and very modern.
The cabin is finished with high-quality materials and is very comfortable.
The Chevrolet Tahoe is a multifunctional vehicle that meets the needs of most buyers.
The Tahoe's existence raises some interesting questions. At GMC, there's the Yukon, which comes in just two versions. Chevrolet, on the other hand, chose a different strategy with two distinct models and names. The Suburban is essentially a stretched Tahoe—or vice versa. Ultimately, it all comes down to marketing.
Chevrolet is a brand aimed at the general public, but also businesses that appreciate having options. GMC is positioned as a more "premium" brand, and combining the short- and long-wheelbase SUVs under one name aligns with the more curated experience the brand aims to offer.
