2.7L Turbo High-Output

REDEFINING THE 4-CYLINDER ENGINE

Meet the small-but-mighty L3B 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder, an engine built from a clean-sheet design specifically for light-duty pickups. For the 2022 model year of Chevrolet and GMC 1500 pickups, General Motors re-engineered this workhorse for a quieter experience, while also re-tuning it to deliver 20% more torque than its predecessor from 2019.

The result?
A smaller engine that not only saves you fuel, but touts a surprisingly capable 430 lb.-ft. of torque and a maximum 4WD Crew Cab conventional towing capacity of up to 9,000 lbs1.

Paired to a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, the 2.7L Turbo is standard in:

FUEL-SAVING TECHNOLOGIES

The 2.7L Turbo High-Output makes good use of power dense fuel-saving technologies including:

  • Variable Valve Timing
  • Direct Injection
  • A Dual-Volute Turbocharger
  • 3-phase Sliding Camshaft
  • Active Fuel Management

DUAL-VOLUTE TURBOCHARGER
Delivers a noticeably quicker engine response time when accelerating from low speed. The Dual-Volute geometry allows for the complete separation of engine exhaust gases so more exhaust energy is available to the turbine wheel. By splitting the exhaust gases it’s like having two turbos providing more boost for superior performance.

3-PHASE CAMSHAFT
Provides three levels of valve lift resulting essentially in three levels of power:

  • High Lift is the default mode, providing more power on demand for initial accelerations or for passing.
  • Low Lift provides a balance between power and fuel efficiency for times when full power isn’t required.
  • And finally, there’s the “No Lift” mode or “Active Fuel Management,” which deactivates two out of the four cylinders in light load conditions providing even more fuel efficiency.
  •

1 | Maximum conventional towing capacity of 9,000 lbs applies to a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD Crew Cab Short Bed. The weight of passengers, cargo and options or accessories may reduce the amount you can tow. 2 | Table excludes the max towing ratings for trucks equipped with (NHT) Max Trailering Package.
